Lead Game Designer

DESCRIPTION

Neopets is a virtual pet website that's been active since 1999! Neopians (players) can create and adopt virtual pets "Neopets", customize them, play games, and more! I had the chance to work with Jumpstart Games on the Neopet's Classic team as the Lead Game Designer. My role involved redesigning and updating features and events while also making them mobile-friendly. Together with the team we also worked on bringing fun events (new and old) to the site.

I also had the pleasure of working with content designers to design items for Neopet customizations and plots.

DESIGN

Neopet's being a 20+ old website has a plethora of lore, content, games, and features it has built throughout the years. It also has a very large and passionate community with different groups that have different player goals while playing on the site. There are collectors, players who focus on customization, and others that enjoy leveling up their Neopets and playing in the Battledome. These are some of the many activities you can do on the site.

THE CHALLENGE

The site has old code that can make updates and redesigns difficult. Because of this we have to work in a highly collaborative environment with programmers to see what is feasible while updating and redesigning the site.

To combat this we worked together to do a series of updates for conversions, bug fixing, and redesigns while steadily pushing out content and events.
